Your role: Intermolecular, part of the EMD Electronics business of Merck KGaA Darmstadt, Germany, is the partner for developing materials and process solutions for some of the most challenging aspects of semiconductor innovation. Our work is enabled by our unique toolset that allows us to screen materials and process combinations quickly, efficiently and with high confidence. The current toolsets are deposition tools (ALD, PVD), metrology tools (physical and electrical characterization) and wet processing tools (wet etch cleans). These toolsets are used in San Jose, CA as well as EMD Electronics’ application labs around the world.

As a Staff System Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, integrates, tests, and troubleshoots complex vacuum systems, process modules and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Defines interfaces and processes for complex technical platforms (including RF system integrated with gas delivery platforms), system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.
  • Works closely with process, hardware, RF, software engineers to determine limitation of the technology, propose and build new technology solutions
  • Capability to create out-of-the-box concepts-Outside of normal configuration
  • Design RF Systems/Design chamber system, design software control system.

Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience working in semiconductor equipment
  • Experience with Etch and Deposition Tools needed, ALE and/ or ALD experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in best-practices in troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve problems with design features and devices
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Strong Team Player and able to work in a multicultural team environment
  • Collaboration/ Matrix environment mindset
  • Self-motivated individual with hands on laboratory experience and can-do attitude, with demonstrated experience in developing and conducting test plans
  • RF Plasma experience
  • Ability to develop hardware on your own
  • Understanding of how to model the flow, temperature (RF to arrive at type of hardware)
  • Ability to independently run a project or lead a project and design system from scratch
  • Ability to write specification, FAT (factory acceptance testing) & SAT (site acceptance testing) documents
