Note: CCCOnline is transitioning to with a target date of December 2023. This time-limited position would be impacted by the transition. This is a part-time position at .75 FTE. Areas of Responsibility

Under the guidance of the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts, responsibilities for this position include teaching courses, staffing/supervising instructors, and overseeing curriculum development for various online educational courses and programs. The History and Political Science Department Chair, serving as a member of the State Discipline committees, functions as a discipline expert for specified online courses and programs.

The Department Chair researches and evaluates course materials in accordance to CCCOnline standards. This position also serves as an arbitrator for instructor and student issues and provides timely responses to student inquiries on academic matters. This position provides department oversight including support and leadership to instructors. Some job duties include:

  • Research and select (in collaboration with Associate Dean, Instructional Designers, and appropriate instructors) all course materials used within the assigned department including course homework/testing platforms, course supplements, simulations, and other non-digital and digital content.
  • Serve as a content oversight point of contact in course developments per the CCCOnline course development process.
  • Serve as mentor to department instructors by providing academic leadership/supervision and professional development guidance. Provide timely staffing for department to include instructors and subject matter experts for course development projects.
  • Teach online to fulfill 9 credits per academic year. Teaching responsibilities expected include: evaluate courses and assess student learning; meet established course, program, and learning outcomes; develop rapport with students; assist with and participate in informal mentoring, orientation and registration activities.
  • Serve as arbiter for student complaints and work with instructors/Associate Dean to address and resolve issues.


  • Master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours related to history, political science, or related discipline from an accredited college or university within the seven regional accreditation commissions.
  • 2 years’ professional experience designing courses and/or teaching online.



$36,000 – $40,000 annually
